Let’s Get Lost

I used to find myself in situations where it felt as though I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. The feeling of being caught in something that I couldn’t get out of gave me anxiety and the feeling of claustrophobia.

I was in a toxic relationship for 5+ years and felt as though that was it for me. I felt stuck and obligated to spend the rest of my days with this person and I just couldn’t fathom it. I, honestly, could not imagine that toxicity in an area that was meant for peace, understanding and love was my destiny. So I felt as though I couldn’t move.

I worked at a job for 10 years and my original goal was to only be there for 1-2 years. It had nothing to do with my interests, goals, dreams, or aspirations. But it supported myself and my family, however much the feeling of not wanting to be there everyday plagued me. Once again the feeling of “this can’t be it for me” hovered over me everyday I walked in there. So I felt as though I couldn’t move.

The feeling of being stuck or posted in one position for a long time can cause cramps, ailments and a negative sense of self when being there for a long time. Discouragement, self-doubt, effort, and change in personality can begin to settle within you and change who you are and what you’re going to become. Unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with all of these aspects and I also had to deal with the fact that it was the worst.

But while we all have our moments of feeling stuck, those moments are actually seen as clarity. I feel like our journey through life is having those moments of not being sure, feeling lost, stuck and isolation. These are the times where we need to appreciate the fact that we often find out who we are and what we want for our lives.

We don’t want that toxic relationship, so we assess the aspects of relationships that we need and want in our lives.

We don’t feel fulfilled in our jobs, so we begin to re-evaluate our goals and dreams and how that can coincide with a career.

We might be stuck in traffic but look at that as alone time before you either tackle your day or tackle the routines of home life.

We might feel lost within ourselves but then we are forced to find ourselves again. And there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing wrong with getting lost once in a while to figure yourself out again.

So take joy in being “stuck.” Take joy in the fact that being stuck is just another way of you realizing that you want growth and something is telling you that you deserve so much better.

“There comes a point in your life, when you realize that turning the page is the best feeling in the world because there’s so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on.” -Unknown
