verb
delay or postpone action; put off doing something.
Growing up I was the kid who waited until the last minute to complete a task, homework assignment, project, etc. probably 60% of the time, it didn’t work out for the best. And although, to an extent, I do still somewhat procrastinate, I am better at gauging the high priority tasks and making sure they aren’t being pushed to the way side.
But in reflecting (as it seems I’m doing a lot lately), I realized that there are quite a few things on my “Life To Do List” that I haven’t even come close to completing or better yet even started. And then the question comes:
Am I procrastinating my life?
That’s a hard question to answer only because you might realize some things that you’ve been in denial about.
I don’t know how many times I’ve daydreamed about traveling to various countries, states, wanting to learn a different language or a sport. Or finally taking that leap to make time to complete my novel. I’m procrastinating my dreams.
Dreams that I’ve had since little me started to figure out who she was as a person. Dreams that I’ve always gone back to even after Life knocked me down too many times. Dreams that I put on hold (well worth it) because I became a mama to four AMAZING human beings.
I have procrastinated my dreams.
Life happens. True desires of our heart sometimes end up at the bottom of our “Life To Do List” due to various circumstances. Circumstances that are sometimes out of our control and some that are developed by us. But I feel like at a certain point in our life we begin to realize and grab the reigns of our dream chariot and start our ride. We get tired of procrastinating because we know we deserve to see our dreams and goals manifest in front of us.
Putting off doing the laundry, dishes, cleaning the house, starting breakfast are tasks that we will eventually get to. But putting off writing that novel, learning that language, visiting a country or believing in yourself are things that should be done right now.
So don’t delay the desires that have been in your heart since day one.
