I think about time quite often. Everyday actually.
How much sleep can I get if I go to bed at this time?
How long will it take me to get to this particular destination if I leave my home at this time?
What time is it right now?
How many more hours until it’s time to go home from work?
I wish time would just slow down or speed up (in some cases).
Time.
But the concept of time has seemed to become more of a constant visual especially now that my children are getting older. My oldest is 12, turning 13 this summer (some days he is a hermit in his room).
My 10 year old and I wear the same shoe size (heaven help me when we can wear the same size clothes).
My 9 year old has very mature thoughts and opinions, respectfully of course (not looking forward to our future debates).
My 6 year old is super independent (she vacuums better than anyone in the house, including me).
So I have literally asked Time, out loud, can you please slow down? Slow down so I can have more time to cherish moments with them. More time to adjust to the new, more mature human beings they are blossoming into. More time to process each child’s personality as it grows, so I can better relate to each of them.
But it can’t.
Time waits for no one. Being the age that I am (still not going into detail), that statement rings so true for me, and I’m sure every parent.
How do we grasp Time though?
How do we make the most of our time while life is happening all around us?
How can I have a loving, open, communicative relationship with Time?
I believe we are all capable of it. I’m still learning how to open myself up to Time. To let Time know that I don’t take it for granted. That I will, one day, show how much I appreciate it. How much I care about using it wisely.
As a parent, it is difficult to grasp Time some days. It is difficult to make the most out of the 24 hours we are granted Sunday through Sunday. It is difficult to sit back and enjoy the Time we are allotted.
What I will say is, don’t feel guilty about taking Time.
Time wants you to show it appreciation and love and respect. Time wants you to say, “I’m going to use you to my full advantage.”
Time is here for us.
We just have to grab it.
Lovely post!!!! Of course time waits for no one..so we have to conform. I like to think it is God’s way of keeping us on our toes…holding us accountable for not getting things we should be doing done..the consequence is we never get the time back. So gotta make the best of our time…use it wisely! (As i step down from my soap box)
