“If you feel like you don’t fit into the world you inherited it is because you were born to help create a new one.” -Ross Caligiuri

I’ve been sitting on this quote since I viewed it earlier today.

How profound is it to finally understand why we just don’t always know or feel we contribute as a whole?

When we’re asked the age old question as elementary aged children what we want to be when we grow up a lot of us gave the traditional, typical answers:

Doctor, lawyer, teacher, firefighter, etc.

The list goes on. Don’t be mistaken, all of those professions and then some, are extremely admirable. I, myself, am striving to achieve one of those very professions. However, I know there is more for me. More I want to create and redefine. I wasn’t molded by the Creator himself for just one aspect or avenue of Life.

The world that we are brought into can be disheartening. It can make us feel that our individuality shouldn’t be celebrated, or made to feel like what we have to offer isn’t worth being considered.

That’s not true.

We weren’t created to blend in. Especially in a world that historically attempted to have everyone “be the same.”

The reason why you feel so out of place, outcasted, ostracized, or living in a world that doesn’t make sense is because you’re supposed to bring something unorthodox, unique, intriguing, dare I say different to it.

We’ve all felt stuck or stagnant in various moments of our lives. Most commonly in our current or past professions.

We felt as though our true, authentic, organic selves were meant to be seen but being misunderstood at the same time.

We didn’t want to fit in to the “norms” that society created, but in a way we were forced to as a means to survive, to adapt even.

We wanted what was divinely instilled in us from the womb to shine through the cracks of what negatively affected broke or deterred us from our uniqueness.

And we knew deep down, we never wanted to fit in.

All those light bulb ideas and daydreams we envision and drift off to often are what we are meant to do. It’s a desire that burns like a wildfire in us.

So what if it’s something no one has ever seen or heard of before?

Or a spin on something original and/or traditional?

It’s yours. It’s different. It’s not “normal.” It’s positively peculiar.

And why wouldn’t you want to be eccentric? Unconventional. The weirdo.

This world was never meant to stay the same. If that were the case we would never encounter or be inspired by the dreamers, the doers, or the risk takers.

So whether your impact affects a tiny population or every human being on the planet…

You were born to stand out.
