2.
feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to (someone).

Love comes in many different forms and lately I’ve been noticing a lot of social media posts, videos and recent movies that relate to love. Which got me thinking about what my definition of real, true love is. I’ll be honest, I’ve been in relationships where I thought the love was real and only to realize after the fact that it was just a facade. But with every relationship or encounter, my definition of love began to change.

My parents recently celebrated their 39th anniversary.  And in just having regular conversations with my mother about their longevity, she always says “he understands me.” What I’ve seen in the marriages and relationships that are around me, and how they’ve been able to stand the test of time, is that both partners can be their true selves. No judgement, no apologies. Just them.  The respect and admiration is abundant between the two.

Unfortunately, people (including me), tend to get in relationships or stay in one where they are hiding. Hiding themselves in a sense where they may feel that they can’t show a part of themselves to their partner because they either feel or just know that they will judged or scrutinized. Or in some cases, they are themselves but they just aren’t the right match for that person.

Ultimately, what we want is for someone to see us.

Understand us.

And truly love us.

We want a witness to our lives, to share in our joys, triumphs, and downfalls. Someone who genuinely has our best interests at heart, while at the same time, encouraging our inner beauty. Someone who is honest with us and vice versa while still maintaining respect. A best friend. Confidant. Partner.

This person won’t define who we are, we already know our worth. But someone who will be a bonus to our lives.

Someone who will show everyday, through tough and easy Life situations, the love they have for us.

Love is a verb.

Love is an action.

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet. Rumi
